Ch. 3 - Choosing Your Own Life

The reading was very informative and a definite start to setting a plan for your accomplishments. I think that the most important part from this Chapter is making sure to set realistic goals and not to be wary of the business world, but to instead to learn how it functions. The key with anything you do is to just go with what your gut feeling and not second guess yourself. You never know what the outcome of your efforts will be. When setting your goals it is important to think about what you want to accomplish and cut it in half to begin with. Make sure that the goals you set are achievable, even if they may not be very big goals. As an artist, you need to narrow your goals to the short term because it is the quickest way to reach success. Doing too much and skipping ahead will not work. With anything you do, mainly creating a body of work, it is very important also to get a momentum going and to use it to your advantage; Momentum in the form of an adrenaline rush possibly. With every small goal that is accomplished it becomes easier to move on to bigger, more important goals. Just like the reading states, you gain a lot of momentum from accomplishing small goals as a start and being able to keep your main goal in sight. The example about the rat that got an extra burst of energy each time it saw its food is a good one. Making sure to start somewhere and not quit is very important when it comes to art.

My goal right now is just to start by taking a lot of photos in my free time; seeing where that takes me. My main goal is to become a professional photographer who is able to get an amazing shot no matter what the situation may be.

Here is a link to a goal setting guide I found that might be useful...
