In t he beginning of the chapter the book talks about how when you start marketing your art that you must have a target market for them. Painters are not as interested in ceramics as they might be other paintings. This applies to choosing a gallery or museum to show your work at. we talked about this last week. You do not want to show a gallery your ceramics when the gallery just shows paintings. One thing to remember when trying to find a place that will sell or show your work is that you should make the work before you decide were you want to show it. In other words you do not want to change your art for the place or person. I know about this first hand, while at crossing i have been as to do a lot of different things that people want me to make. When i get done making what they want m to make its work that is not me and not something that i would do. I call this whoring your self as an artist and it think that an artist that does this will be short lived.
I also thought that it was very interesting when the book talked about goal setting. How that if you set a goal and cant uphold that goal shrink to goal to make it easier to uphold and still feel the gratification of making your goal. the book used running every morning as an example. i you want to run in the morning 2 days a week for 6 months. and if you find your self not wanting to get up and run to change the goal to get up and to only change into your running clothes. once you change you will want to run, and if you wake up and put your running clothes on and still don't feel like running that its no big deal you completed your goal. running was just a bonus.
I think that the self contract is a cool thin and i am going to do it and look back on it every week or every month to see where i am and how i can do better in the coming week or month.

  1. I find this to be a really useful chapter (and shorter too). Good summary.
